We live in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and are among the lucky people who are nearby to The Caviste. Expertly and skillfully curated by owner Russ Anderson, this store is among the best we have ever entered. Russ’s life is centered around learning, discovering, and enjoying unique and artful wines. His passion surrounds wines that are grown by small, traditional producers, including a wide variety of biodynamic wines.
Most wines at The Caviste are European, but the smaller number of domestic wines that are there are just as interesting. We have discovered many Californian wines that fall in the rarer 7% of grape varietals (California is known for growing only 8 well-known grape varietals in 93% of their acreage), like Arnot-Roberts Trousseau and Salinia Wine Company White Wine Blend, and have enjoyed them all.
If you are in the area it is worth your time to come explore this beautiful library of wine.
From The Caviste itself:
“Exploration | Adventure | Education
‘Food is our common ground, a universal experience.’ James Beard
Having first encountered wine on European travels, our desire was to open a shop that offered wines that were meant for the dinner table all of us appreciate the intersection of the wine glass and the fork (or chopsticks) at the dinner table.
We enjoy cooking and gathering with friends and family around the dinner table. Whether a simple soup or salad or a more complex gourmet affair, a glass of well chosen wine adds to the occasion.
Unlike some stores, The Caviste offers a curated selection of wine focused on small traditional producers. We stock those that we have tasted and look forward to taking home to share with family and friends.”
